The operatives being carried away by the police
The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded two alleged notorious landguards and 12 individuals said to be National Security officers into police custody following a violent demolition exercise in the Gomoa East District.
The court, presided over by Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, on Friday, February 20, 2025, ordered that the 14 accused persons be held pending their next appearance.
The suspects were arrested after they allegedly stormed Gomoa Akoti in the early hours of Thursday and demolished more than 60 houses at various stages of completion.
Residents say the operation left families stranded and in shock.
The demolition exercise, which took place at dawn, reportedly caused fear and panic in the community as homeowners watched helplessly while their properties were pulled down.
Following their arrest by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command, the accused persons were slapped with four charges: conspiracy to commit a crime, using force and violence to prevent lawful landowners from accessing their property, causing fear and panic, and unlawful destruction.
According to a report on citinewsroom.com, in court, their plea for bail was rejected due to the gravity of the alleged offenses.
They have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before the same court on March 4, 2026.
Juliana Asane, a property owner who witnessed the court proceedings, struggled to hide her emotions as she reacted to the development.
“I’m very happy about the outcome of the event. But I’ll be happier if they are finally jailed because I became very terrified about what occurred. I wouldn’t know where they would have taken my siblings to but for the timely arrival of the police,” she said.
Residents of Gomoa Akoti say the demolitions have disrupted lives and investments, with some families now uncertain about where to turn next as the case proceeds, the report added.
