New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has urged Ghanaians to recognise the efforts of both the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government and the current John Dramani Mahama administration in managing the country’s economic and social challenges.

In an interview on GhONE TV on Friday, January 23, 2026, he stated that while citizens endured hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic and the global cost-of-living crisis, the bold decisions of past governments helped the nation navigate the challenges at the time.

“We should give credit to both governments and that’s what I think is important. I’m not here to do politics. We should give ourselves credit for the suffering that we went through during COVID, through the cost-of-living crisis.

“And then we kept our country together, and our leaders took bold decisions even if that caused them intellectually or politically… We should give ourselves credit for the sacrifice that we endured, and now we are benefiting from it,” Otchere-Darko said.

“This government has had the discipline to continue and consolidate those policies that were necessary and then we are seeing the benefit,” he added.
