At a gathering at the Manhyia Palace on April 18, 2024, involving players, the technical team, and the management of the team, revelations emerged regarding a significant decline in confidence amongst the players, particularly in the second half of the season.
Addressing the issues, team captain Danlad Ibrahim highlighted various factors contributing to the players’ diminishing confidence.
He cited criticism from multiple quarters, including the coach, supporters, and referees, as detrimental to the players’ morale and performance on the field.
“Players face immense pressure beyond training sessions. Many newcomers to the premier league lack the endurance to withstand the criticism they receive for their mistakes. This feedback from supporters often demoralizes and intimidates them, affecting their willingness to take risks during matches,” Ibrahim explained.
Echoing Ibrahim’s sentiments, Moise Pouaty emphasized the role of team management in exacerbating the confidence crisis.
“The team’s confidence has waned due to management’s handling of situations. Players often find themselves at odds with management decisions, leading to apprehension and reluctance to take risks on the field,” Pouaty added.
After losing to Dreams FC recently, Asante Kotoko is in danger of dropping down the Ghana Premier League rankings.
In order to prevent falling farther down the table and into the dreaded relegation zone, they must win their upcoming match against Samartex FC.
