Ghanaian musician D Cryme has shared that, away from the glare of social media, many of today’s trending artistes still show deep respect and admiration for industry pioneers like himself.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, he explained that while online audiences often try to create rivalry between generations, the real atmosphere among artistes is much more supportive. According to him, several younger musicians with massive online followings have personally expressed their gratitude to him for helping shape the music scene they thrive in today.

Privately known as Darlington Agyekum, the ‘Kill Me Shy’ hitmaker revealed that these gestures usually happen off-camera, which is why the public rarely hears about them. He believes the absence of social media coverage doesn’t erase the respect that exists within the industry.

D Cryme also highlighted how misleading social media can be when it comes to measuring artistic influence. He cautioned that online comparisons and fan debates often distort the reality of what truly defines success. For him, maintaining authenticity and building an organic connection with his audience has always been more valuable than chasing viral fame.

Reflecting on his early days in music, D Cryme recalled how his work gained international recognition long before social media became a tool for promotion. He noted that even without digital platforms, his songs found global audiences — something he takes pride in to this day.

He contrasted that era with the current one, pointing out that some artistes now struggle to make an impact despite having access to every digital resource. This, he said, is proof that influence cannot be measured by algorithms or hashtags. To him, his lasting legacy and the continued relevance of his songs show that real artistry transcends trends.
