Ghana’s only PGA Tour golfer, Danny List, hosted over 100 children at the 3rd Danny List Foundation Junior Golf Clinic at the Achimota Golf Driving Range, last Saturday.

The event, which first teed off in 2024 and again last year, is aimed at providing a platform for golf enthusiasts to undergo training in the rudiments of the sport. It offers coaching, equipment and exposure opportunities for young golfers.

The 2026 event brought young and aspiring golfers together to learn and play the game, improve their skills, and develop a love for the sport.

Participants, drawn mainly from the Achimota environs, quickly took the opportunity to practise under the strict tutelage of experienced golf coaches, much to the delight of List.

“This is a great way to end your holidays. A big thanks to all parents for bringing your kids out here, I really appreciate you giving us this opportunity to try and educate, have a good time, good golf, good music, everything,” he said in his closing remarks.

“I’m impressed with how much better everyone is getting, how this programme is really growing the game in Ghana and gathering a lot of steam. I’m seeing a whole lot of talent and high quality. I’m sure pretty soon the results will start speaking for themselves on a global stage when the kids get scholarships to play and excel overseas,” List, 27, noted.

“Thanks to everyone, thanks to Achimota Golf Club. We appreciate the relationship with Achimota, this is where I learnt to play golf, it’s got a very important place in my heart. My earliest memories come from school every day to practise here to get better and better. And you kids can do it as well,” he related.

Born in Georgia, USA, to an Australian father and a Ghanaian mother and raised in Accra where he learnt and honed his skills at the prestigious Achimota Golf Club, young List made his debut in the professional ranks last March when he got a direct entry into the $20 million Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines from the legendary Tiger Woods, as a recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption, an honour that recognises a player who exemplifies diversity within golf.

“I’m in my off-season, recovering from a slight back injury. That’s why I didn’t do any demonstration today, but I will be back on the tour,” List told the media.

“Expect a lot more hard work. I should be pushing to get some good results and one or two wins, maybe, and hopefully even more. That’s my goal,” he said of his aspirations in 2026.
