Pastor Bolaji Idowu, head of Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), has stirred conversation online after advising that individuals without employment should refrain from entering romantic relationships.
The pastor explained that being unemployed alters a person’s perception of attraction, often leading them to accept partners they would never have considered if they were financially stable. He warned that what many interpret as love is sometimes just a result of financial desperation.
Using his platform to speak on personal growth and self-awareness, Pastor Bolaji emphasized that poverty can cloud judgment and cause people to settle for less than they deserve. He described this mindset as a “crumbs mentality,” where individuals are too easily satisfied because they lack resources.
He pointed out that once people begin to earn an income, their standards and sense of self-worth tend to rise, making them realize that previous relationships were driven more by necessity than genuine affection.
The pastor also challenged the idea of setting low goals, such as merely wishing to travel abroad, instead of aspiring to abundance and broader visions.
His remarks sparked reactions across social media. Some users agreed with his point about financial stability affecting romantic decisions, while others used the opportunity to highlight inconsistencies in church teachings—especially around giving while jobless.
Despite mixed reactions, Pastor Bolaji’s message resonated with many, especially young people navigating dating and financial uncertainty.
