Ghanaian TikTok star Deaconess Abokomah has recently shed light on the intentions behind his distinctive style of dressing, which often features him as a traditional elderly Ghanaian woman.
In a recent appearance on GTV monitored by News & Vibes, Abokomah explained that his choice of attire is driven by a desire to generate income rather than reflect his personal identity.
Abokomah is well-known for his humorous and creative portrayals of the everyday behaviours and interactions of elderly women in Ghana.
His content mimics the routines and social dynamics of these women, making it both entertaining and relatable for his audience.
In the interview, Abokomah clarified that his use of cross-dressing in his videos does not signify his sexual orientation. He highlighted that while he may dress as a woman for his content, the primary aim is to engage viewers through a portrayal of traditional female roles rather than to make any personal statement about his own identity.
His focus remains on creating engaging content that appeals to his audience and attracts brand endorsements, rather than reflecting any aspect of his personal life.
This explanation aims to clear up any misconceptions about his motivations and the nature of his content, reaffirming that his approach is rooted in creativity and professional ambition.
“I know the audience I am appealing to with my craft. Most times we look like women but the content is often based on how our grandmothers and mothers behave at home. Most people could relate to some of the things we portray in our content. That doesn’t make us gay. It just means are creative. There are other people who cross-dress and openly declare their sexual orientation but I want to state categorically that, our style is only to make money and get endorsement from brands.”
