Blogger and media practitioner, Christopher A. Ranson, has called on the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation to take firm action against individuals who deliberately spread fake news on social media.

His reaction follows a publication circulating online alleging that actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown once had a sexual affair with politician Joshua Akamba.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Ranson described the claim as “false, malicious and highly defamatory,” insisting that both personalities are reputable figures whose images are being unfairly targeted.

He specifically mentioned one DJ Azorkobos, whom he accused of spreading the false allegations, and stressed that authorities must not treat the matter lightly. According to him, decisive action against those responsible would deter others from engaging in similar conduct.

“This narrative is completely untrue and a calculated attempt to tarnish hard-earned reputations. People who fabricate and circulate such stories must be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he stated.

Mr. Ranson argued that the growing culture of sensational and unverified publications threatens Ghana’s media credibility and democratic values. He urged the enforcement of existing laws, including provisions under the Cybersecurity Act and other relevant legislation, to protect individuals from reputational harm.

He further explained that unchecked fake news can cause emotional distress, damage careers, strain families and erode public trust in digital platforms.

“If we are serious about sanitising our digital space, then firm action must be taken against those responsible to serve as a deterrent,” he added.
