Residents of Kumasi can expect the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project to be completed and operational by the end of 2026, according to the government.
The project, initiated in 2007, has been stalled for over a decade, becoming a concern for traders and residents.
Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has shared an update on the government’s efforts to fulfil its promise.
In an interview with Barima Kofi Dawson on Nhyira FM’s “Kro Yi Mu Nsem”, he revealed that a procurement alert has been received, with the budget seeing an increase.
He also noted that a legal tangle with the consultant is being ironed out, paving the way for the project to move forward.
“We have received a procurement alert, and the budget has been increased,” he said.
The Mayor expressed optimism about the project’s progress.
On the Kejetia Phase II project, Mr Agyemang Boadi attributed the stalled project to the government’s indebtedness.
According to him, he is pushing for the fund release by March 2026 to resume work, aiming for timely completion and benefits for Kumasi residents.
“The government owes the contractor, and I hope that by March I will get money for the project to continue,” he stated.
