Dede Ayew plays for NAC Breda

Former Black Stars captain, André Dede Ayew has disclosed that he rejected offers from other clubs to join Dutch side NAC Breda after the expiration of his contract with Le Havre.

He explained that his agent informed him about several offers from clubs interested in his services while he was training in Ghana.

The former U-20 World Cup winner noted that after speaking with officials of the Dutch club, he was impressed by their project and felt he could contribute meaningfully to their cause.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN UK, Ayew revealed that Ghanaian players such as Denis Odoi, Kamal Sowah, and coach Matthew Amoah influenced his decision to join the team.

“It was when I was in Ghana. I was quite busy there with some personal stuff, that’s why I didn’t sign earlier. Then my agent called me and told me about the interest from this club and also other clubs. Knowing that Denis was here, Kamal was here, I had a discussion with the head scout, the sporting director, and the coach. It didn’t take very long for me to decide to come here because the discussions were good. The football project, the idea, the challenge, the city,” Ayew said.

He further added, “I also know the club. I spoke to Mathieu Amoah. I’ve known the club for a long time, from when we played together in the national team. All these things made the decision quite easy. But still, I sat down and thought carefully because I had other options. When I looked at everything, the challenge I was seeking and what I wanted personally, I felt this was the best choice.”

Ayew joined NAC Breda as a free agent on December 31, 2025, signing a deal that runs until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
