Celebrated Ghanaian media personality Delay has opened up about a painful chapter in her early career—one that nearly ended her dreams of becoming a journalist before they even took off.
Speaking at the AYA Women’s Summit held on June 30, Delay reflected on how she was let go from her first major radio role at just 17 years old. Recounting her journey, she revealed that she had been working at Adom FM after a stint at Live FM, holding down a graveyard shift from midnight to 4 a.m.
Despite dedicating a full year to the role, Delay said she was never paid. But for her, it wasn’t about the money. Her passion for radio and journalism was so strong that she willingly kept showing up, determined to build a future in media.
However, her aspirations were abruptly cut short when a man named Mr. Frederick Nuamah informed her that her services were no longer needed at Adom FM. The dismissal came as a blow, not just professionally, but emotionally, as Delay had poured everything into the opportunity.
Though she did not receive a salary, she admitted that the experience meant everything to her at the time. Being shown the door without explanation or compensation was a harsh introduction to the realities of the media world.
Delay’s story is a powerful reminder of how determination, even in the face of rejection, can still lead to greatness. Today, she stands as one of Ghana’s most successful and influential media figures—a far cry from the unpaid teen who was once shown the exit.
