Diamond Appiah has recently taken to social media to criticise Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, following Delay’s receipt of the award for Outstanding Media Personality at the Ghana Women Awards (GWA).
The awards, which celebrated their 15th anniversary this year, honoured several women for their remarkable achievements across various industries, with Delay being one of the notable recipients.
Appiah, who has a history of being outspoken on social media, used the occasion to mock Delay, suggesting that her award was not earned but bought.
Her comments came across as an attack on Delay’s success, implying that Delay’s recognition might not have been based purely on merit.
Though the post appeared to stem from a place of jealousy, given that Appiah herself has not received an award of this nature, it highlighted the tension between the two public figures.
The Ghana Women Awards, organized by the Ghana Women Awards Foundation (GWAF), sought to celebrate women who have overcome obstacles and demonstrated excellence in their respective fields.
This year, 24 awards were presented to women who have made significant contributions to Ghanaian society. Despite the prestige associated with the awards, Appiah’s remarks created a stir online, as she attempted to downplay Delay’s accomplishment.
Delay, known for her resilience and success in the media industry, stood out amongst the awardees, but Appiah’s remarks overshadowed the moment to some extent, bringing unnecessary controversy into what should have been a celebration of women’s achievements.
Many viewed Appiah’s comments as unprovoked, particularly given Delay’s long-standing contributions to the media landscape.
While Appiah’s accusations have yet to be substantiated, her actions appeared more like an attempt to gain attention rather than a valid critique of Delay’s award.
Despite the online backlash stirred by the post, Delay has continued to focus on her work, showing little interest in engaging with the drama surrounding Appiah’s claims.
