The diplomatic community in Ghana has praised the country for its economic progress and democratic stability over the past year.
Speaking during the New Year greetings at the Jubilee House on Thursday, February 12, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Imane Ouaadil, commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership, noting that the year 2025 had witnessed a significant milestone in the democratic evolution of Ghana.
She highlighted the international recognition of Ghana’s smooth transition of power, stating, “The international community wishes to formally recognize the Republic of Ghana for the grace and stability with which it navigated its recent transition of authority.”
Highlighting Ghana’s role as a democratic leader in Africa, Ms Ouaadil said, “By upholding the tenets of a peaceful transfer of power, Ghana has once again signalled its leadership as a vanguard of democracy in Africa.”
She praised the statesmanship displayed throughout the period, explaining, “We wish to highlight the exemplary statesmanship displayed throughout this period, which served to fortify national cohesion and uphold the democratic aspirations of every Ghanaian citizen.”
Turning to economic achievements, she said, “On the economic front, the accomplishments of the past year merit significant recognition. The international community has witnessed a year of profound stabilization since your inauguration in January 2025.”
Ms Ouaadil detailed the government’s fiscal measures, noting, “By pairing rigorous fiscal reforms with targeted tax reliefs, your administration has successfully arrested inflationary pressures and stabilised the national currency. These efforts have served as a catalyst for renewed market optimism.”
She also highlighted key sectors driving growth, stating, “We are particularly encouraged by the vitality in key sectors, agriculture, manufacturing services, and construction, which today stand as a testament to the efficacy of your administration’s economic stewardship.”
She affirmed the diplomatic community’s support, saying, “We applaud your unwavering commitment to economic revitalization, the pursuit of social equity, and the systemic strengthening of state institutions. On behalf of our respective nations and organisations, I wish to affirm our steadfast partnership as you navigate this ambitious quest to forge a more resilient and inclusive economy for all Ghanaians. Beyond the subregion, we have watched with admiration as Ghana has extended its hand in solidarity to nations in distress.”
In his remarks, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democracy and economic confidence, stating that his government is fully committed to preserving Ghana’s record and strengthening trust in the country and its economy.
“My government is fully committed to preserving this record and strengthening confidence in our country and our economy. ” My government is determined to demonstrate to the world that indeed democracy works,” he stated.
He emphasised the importance of diplomacy, noting, “In a time of global uncertainty and rapid transformation, diplomacy remains our most reliable instrument for managing our differences, preventing conflict, and advancing our shared prosperity.”
Amid global threats, the President stressed, “Even amid terrorism, violent extremism, and geopolitical tensions, diplomacy continues to offer the most credible pathway towards dialogue, restraint, and collective action. Ghana’s foreign policy is guided by enduring principles, democracy, respect for human rights, the rule of law, and inclusive and sustainable development.”
He highlighted Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation, saying, “Through partnerships built on mutual respect and shared responsibility, Ghana stands ready to contribute meaningfully to a more just, stable, and prosperous global order.”
Highlighting the country’s strong international reputation, he added, “Ghana has earned a strong reputation as a peaceful and democratic nation.”
He also expressed gratitude to the diplomatic missions and organisations supporting Ghana’s development: “We’re grateful for the role your missions and organizations play in Ghana’s development through trade, investment, technology transfer, development cooperation, and cultural exchanges.”
