A video allegedly showing Nigerian women detained in a Libyan prison has gone viral, sparking widespread concern online.
Shared by Dockaysworld on X (formerly Twitter), the footage shows distressed women calling on the Nigerian government and the public to rescue them from their dire situation.
The post has attracted numerous reactions, with many urging authorities to intervene.
In response, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) issued a statement addressing the situation and urging Nigerians to avoid migrating to Libya.
According to NIDCOM, they are investigating the video, while recalling previous efforts to evacuate stranded Nigerians from Libya.
They highlighted that over 10,000 Nigerians were rescued in a multi-agency operation led by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, following a presidential directive.
Despite these warnings, the commission expressed disappointment that many Nigerians continue to make dangerous attempts to enter Libya, resulting in more being stranded.
NIDCOM further explained that in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), nearly 4,000 Nigerians have been repatriated in recent months.
They have escalated the situation to the multi-agency evacuation team led by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the IOM.
The commission has also urged anyone with contacts or information regarding the women seen in the video to share details, including their specific location, to aid in a swift response.
