Trump dismissed the inquiry, suggesting that his family manages the businesses, and indicated that the journalist’s line of questioning was harming US-Australia relations. He added that he would inform Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of the encounter during their upcoming meeting in New York. When the journalist attempted to ask additional questions, Trump signaled for silence and moved on to speak with another reporter.

The meeting between Trump and Albanese had been anticipated for months, following a last-minute cancellation at the G20 summit in June. The Australian Prime Minister is scheduled to meet Trump during his visit to the US for the UN General Assembly and at various events before the end of the year.
