International corporate lawyer, Victoria Bright has weighed in on the detention of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and former MASLOC boss, Sedina Tamekloe in the US, saying public officials should be prepared to account for their actions when time is due.

Bright emphasized on Newsfile today, January 17, 2026 that, holding public office comes with responsibilities and consequences, and officials should not seek positions if they are not willing to face scrutiny.

Ken Ofori-Atta was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on January 6, 2026, over visa status issues, while Sedina Tamekloe was picked up in Texas by the US Marshals Service. Ghana’s Attorney-General submitted an extradition request for Ofori-Atta, who faces 78 corruption-related charges long before he was detained but showed no interest in returning to account for his actions.
