Lame’s rise to fame began during the COVID-19 lockdown when he started making videos mocking overly complicated “life hacks”. His authenticity and humour resonated with millions, earning him 160 million followers on TikTok and 360 million across platforms.

His story is a testament to the power of self-belief and determination. Despite losing his job, Lame turned his passion into a career, proving that people’s opinions shouldn’t hold you back.

As Stephen Covey said, “An abundance mentality springs from internal security, not from external rankings, comparisons, opinions, possessions or associations”.

Lame’s journey is reminiscent of other remarkable comebacks, like those of Tiger Woods and Andre Agassi, who refused to let setbacks define them.

Their stories teach us to focus on our own strengths and not let others’ opinions dictate our path.

So, whose rating are you? This was my headline for the April 18, 2018 edition of this column, which looked at the remarkable stories of Woods and Agassi. In all,  don’t let their opinions hold you back. Seize every opportunity, and remember, life is the real deal – not a dress rehearsal.

Lame’s story highlights the importance of believing in oneself. He didn’t let his circumstances define him; instead, he used them as an opportunity to create something new. This mindset is crucial for success, as it allows us to take risks and push beyond our limits.

He faced criticism and scepticism, but he didn’t let it deter him. Instead, he focused on his craft and worked tirelessly to build his brand. This resilience is a key factor in his success.

His rise to fame is a testament to the power of social media. Platforms such as TikTok have democratised fame, allowing anyone to build a following and create content that resonates with millions.

The valuable lessons from the Lame story are as follows: Believe in yourself, take risks, focus on your craft and don’t let others define you.  People’s opinions shouldn’t dictate your path.

Khaby Lame’s story is a powerful reminder that we shouldn’t let others define us. His journey teaches us to focus on our strengths, believe in ourselves and seize every opportunity.
