Prominent Ghanaian preacher Prophet Ogyaba, widely known as Prophet Fire Oja, has held a closed-door meeting with former President John Dramani Mahama to address recent spiritual warnings that have generated intense public debate.
The discussion took place at Mahama’s Accra residence, following the prophet’s earlier statements cautioning about possible “spiritual threats” to the president. These remarks came in the wake of the death of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, as well as reports of the passing of several government and military officials.
The prophecies drew mixed reactions nationwide — some viewing them as a sincere call for prayer, while others dismissed them as an attempt to stir fear. Prophet Fire Oja reportedly used the meeting to explain his intentions, emphasising that his messages were meant to promote vigilance and intercession, not panic.
This meeting makes him the first religious leader to personally approach Mahama after Presidential Envoy Elvis Afriyie Ankrah directed that any prophecy with national security implications should be reported for immediate review. The directive is part of efforts to curb misinformation and reduce public anxiety over alarming predictions.
The incident comes at a time when Ghana’s religious environment is under increased scrutiny, with “doom prophecies” becoming a recurring source of controversy.
Political analysts see the encounter as a calculated step to ease tensions and control the narrative surrounding the prophecy. Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has called on Ghanaians not to dismiss credible spiritual revelations. He stressed that trusted religious leaders often hold insights into matters beyond the physical realm and that their warnings should be weighed carefully rather than ignored.
