Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II has announced plans to welcome mining companies into his traditional areas to increase employment opportunities for his people.
He asserted that he will only accept a 50% share of the profit for the government of Ghana to help contribute to development. He then promised his people a better life in terms of education and infrastructure if they are able to secure a deal.
This move is seen as a bold initiative by the traditional leader to bring economic growth and development to his community. The mining industry has the potential to create a significant number of jobs and stimulate economic activity in the region.
The Dormaahene’s demand for a 50% share of the profit is a strong negotiating position, and it remains to be seen how the government of Ghana will respond to this proposal. However, if successful, this deal could be a game-changer for the people of Dormaa, bringing in much-needed revenue and investment to the area.

However, some have expressed skepticism about the announcement, with one person noting, “You don’t invite mining companies to establish a mine in your area. They conduct their exploration, survey the land, and then decide if it will be profitable to mine. Large-scale mining is expensive, and no company would want to jeopardize stakeholders’ investments.”
Others have praised the Dormaahene’s efforts, with one person saying, “If he will fulfill all what he said then I think this Chief would be the best in the history of Ghana and his way of inviting investors into his township is very wise. This should be appreciated on every level.”
Another person expressed doubts about the financial aspects of the deal, saying, “Talk is cheap. Unless he sets up his own mining company. Operational cost in mining coupled with fat salaries in the industry, plus a 50% share 4 u, nah GH as nation don’t even make that dividend.”
Yet another person chimed in, “Haha..nobody is willing to give 40% unless you’re on machines and equipment.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the Dormaahene’s announcement has generated significant interest and discussion about the potential for mining in the region. Only time will tell if this deal will come to fruition and bring the promised benefits to the people of Dormaa.
