Dr John Jinapor inaugurates board to oversee VRA Resettlement Trust Fund

The Board has been tasked with prioritising the needs of resettled communities

The Minister of Energy, Dr John Jinapor, has sworn in the newly constituted Board of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, urging members to focus on the fundamental purpose for which the Trust was established.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on February 12, 2026, Dr Jinapor tasked the Board with prioritising initiatives that directly improve the lives of resettled communities, including public health, education, and sanitation.

“The Trust exists to serve the very communities affected by VRA projects. I encourage the Board to ensure that the programmes and resources of the Trust address the critical needs of these communities,” he said.

The members of the newly constituted Board include Halid Abdul Rauf (Chairman), Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, Dominic Napare, Joycelyn Tetteh, and Samuel Fletcher.

Dr Jinapor expressed confidence that the Board would uphold the mandate of the Trust and deliver tangible benefits to the communities it serves.

The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund exists to improve the quality of life for 52 resettlement communities created during the construction of the Akosombo Dam.

The Fund carries out socio-economic projects, including the provision of educational, health, social, and sanitation facilities, reliable drinking water, and programs to enhance livelihoods and economic empowerment.

These 52 communities are spread across six regions and twenty districts in Ghana, and the Trust is dedicated to addressing their development needs.
