As the New Patriotic Party (NPP prepares for a crucial decision on 31st January, the choice before delegates is both historic and strategic. At this defining moment, the party needs a leader who is not only electable but also tested, competent, and deeply grounded in the values and traditions of the NPP. That leader is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. I therefore make a humble but firm appeal to NPP delegates: on 31st January, simply elect Dr. Bawumia as the Party’s Flagbearer.
Dr. Bawumia stands out as the most prepared candidate to win elections for the NPP. He enters this contest with a strong national profile, wide name recognition, and an electoral track record unmatched by any other contender.
Having successfully campaigned and won two general elections as Vice President on the NPP ticket, he understands the dynamics of national elections and the expectations of the Ghanaian voter. In an era where elections are increasingly competitive, the party cannot afford experimentation; it must choose readiness over novelty.
Beyond electability, Dr. Bawumia’s competence is undeniable. His tenure as Vice President has been defined by innovation, bold thinking, and measurable reforms that have touched the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
He has been the driving force behind Ghana’s digital transformation agenda—introducing digital address systems, mobile money interoperability, paperless ports, digitized public services, and reforms that have improved efficiency and transparency in governance. These initiatives are not mere ideas; they are implemented policies that have modernized the Ghanaian state and positioned the country for the future.
Importantly, retaining Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer is in keeping with the long-standing traditions of the New Patriotic Party. The NPP has always valued continuity, loyalty, and the grooming of leaders through service. From Busia to Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, the party has consistently rewarded experience and proven commitment. Supporting Dr. Bawumia is therefore not a departure from tradition but a reaffirmation of it.
For both the national interest of Ghana and the political future of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia represents the safest and strongest choice. Ghana needs a leader who understands the economy, embraces innovation, and can lead the country through a rapidly changing global landscape. The NPP, on the other hand, needs a candidate who can unite the party, defend its record, and win power to continue its developmental agenda.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is indeed the man of the moment. The task before delegates is clear. On 31st January, for unity, continuity, competence, and victory, the NPP should elect Dr. Bawumia as its flagbearer.
