A 45-year-old driver, Albert Cobbina, has been remanded into police custody by the Asante Akropong District Court following the death of his wife, Grace Asantewaa, under suspicious circumstances.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2025, at the couple’s residence in Fankyenebra, near Santasi in the Kumasi metropolis. Cobbina reportedly told police that he found his wife lying in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife beside her and rushed her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
However, according to Police Chief Inspector David Kwabi, inconsistencies in Cobbina’s account raised suspicions. After preliminary investigations, authorities charged him in connection with the death and presented him before the court.
Presiding judge Emmanuel Wiafe Adu did not take the suspect’s plea and ordered that Cobbina remain in custody. He is expected to reappear in court on September 15, 2025, as investigations continue.
The case has sparked concern in the Fankyenebra community, with residents calling for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the death.
