A heated disagreement over a piglet in Kpongunor, a community near Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, has landed a 27-year-old driver behind bars for five years.
The convict, Nartey Tetteh Adjei, was found guilty by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court after attacking a farmer with a cutlass during the confrontation.
According to case details, the incident occurred on August 9, 2025, when farmer Emmanuel Ofoe realized one of his piglets had wandered from its pen and was feeding near Adjei’s residence. While trying to retrieve the animal, Ofoe reportedly saw Adjei hurl a stone at it, leaving the piglet injured.
The farmer confronted Adjei, who initially apologized and promised to take responsibility. However, when Ofoe later approached him about the worsening condition of the piglet, Adjei turned hostile. He stormed into his room, returned with a cutlass, and struck the farmer, causing serious injuries to his head and left arm.
Ofoe managed to flee and, with assistance from his sister, lodged a complaint with the police. He was issued a medical report and treated at a local facility before being referred to the Regional Hospital for further care.
Adjei was arrested shortly after and, during interrogation, admitted to the assault. Prosecutors charged him with Causing Harm under Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court handed him a five-year prison sentence, stressing that such punishment was necessary to deter similar violent acts.
Police have since urged the public to resolve disputes through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
