A driver, Eric Afful, has been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hilux pick-up vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service.
The vehicle, valued at GH¢300,000, was reportedly taken from the residence of the Commander of the National Patrol Unit in Ashaley Botwe on August 19, 2025. The commander had parked the official vehicle outside his home, only to discover it missing the next morning.
A report was filed at the Lakeside Estates Police Station, and by the afternoon of August 20, a police patrol team intercepted the stolen vehicle with Afful behind the wheel. A search uncovered a police driving logbook, the complainant’s hospital ID card, and a set of Toyota ignition keys.
Initially, Afful claimed he was sent by a friend to pick up a lady, but later confessed to stealing the vehicle with an accomplice identified only as Acquah, who remains at large.
Afful faces two charges: conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing, under Sections 23 and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The case, presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo, has been adjourned to September 4, 2025, pending further investigations.
