A recent surge in power outages across Ghana has left many residents frustrated and searching for answers. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the country’s primary power distributor, has attributed the outages to severe rainstorms that have swept across the nation in recent weeks.
According to the ECG, strong winds and heavy downpours have caused trees and billboards to fall on electrical conductors, leading to disruptions in power supply. The company explained that while it works tirelessly to strengthen and maintain a robust distribution network, the extreme weather conditions have posed a significant challenge.
In a statement, the ECG assured its customers and the general public that it is working diligently to restore power to affected areas as soon as possible. The company noted that outages caused by temporary interruptions, such as transient tripping on its feeders, are typically restored remotely soon after the rainstorm passes.
However, the ECG cautioned that permanent faults on its feeders require more time to rectify, and therefore, may take a while to restore power. The company urged individuals in communities with sagging or fallen electrical conductors to report them immediately to the ECG Call Centre on 0302-611611, the nearest ECG office, or reach out to them on their social media handles for a prompt response.
The ECG also warned the public against approaching or touching sagging or fallen electrical conductors, as they can be fatal. The company advised residents to prioritize safety and allow trained personnel to handle the repairs.
As the rainstorms continue to affect parts of the country, the ECG has assured its customers that it is working around the clock to ensure a stable power supply. The company appreciated the public’s understanding and cooperation during this challenging period.
