The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has collaborated with law enforcement agencies to arrest persons behind the unauthorised sale of DV number plates at inflated prices.

A probe by the Authority found that some garage owners and operators have been bypassing the law by selling DV plates directly to private individuals at significantly high cost.

It was also revealed that some insurance companies operating on DVLA premises facilitate these illegal transactions, providing a physical hub for the black-market sale of these plates.

In a statement, it noted that DV plates are strictly reserved for licensed garage owners and vehicle dealers, intended solely for the movement of unregistered vehicles for testing, demonstrations or transit.

It stated that the plates are not for regular use by private individuals.

“We will not tolerate activities that undermine the security of our licensing system or the safety of our roads. The Authority is working closely with law enforcement to ensure that all individuals and entities involved in this illegality are held accountable under the laws of Ghana.”

It has since ordered several insurance company offices situated on DVLA premises in Cape Coast and Sunyani to close with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, it advised the public to avoid purchasing DV plates from unauthorised sources.

“Engaging in such transactions is a legal risk and compromises vehicle security. For all vehicle registration and licensing needs, please visit our official service counters or use our approved digital platforms.”
