EC wrongly called for the arrest of my child over double registration – Parent

A parent has accused  has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of failing to perform their duties.

According to him, in 2020, somewhere in July, he returned home one day only to realise that his children who are still minors have been registered as voters by an unknown person.

“I realised that my kids have been registered. My daughter was 12 years, she was registered and my son was 14 years at that time and had also been registered by unknown persons in Koforidua.”

He said that it was a common practice at that time but he quickly wrote a letter to the EC petitioning them about what has happened and requested the removal of his children’s names from the register on 23rd July 2020.

The parent indicated that he was invited by the EC and met a panel and they asked for an affidavit to prove the children were his and the dates of birth were correct.

The EC proceeded to collect the voters cards and assured him the names will be deleted.

Fast-forward, it is 2024 and his son who was 14 years then is now 18 years and went to register as a voter. Police arrested him for attempting to register twice because the first registration done when he was still a minor was still in the system.

In an interview with GHOne monitored by News & Vibes, he expressed his disappointment blaming the EC for not performing their duty of deleting his son from the register 4 years ago.

Today the EC apologised for the act.
