The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has stressed the importance of education in national development, urging students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to build a better future.

He said education remained a critical tool for national transformation and human capital development.

This, he said, made it necessary for government and other stakeholders to continue investing in educational infrastructure and programmes that would enhance teaching and learning across the country.

The Chief of Staff was speaking at the 73rd Anniversary and Prize-Giving Day celebration of the Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) in the Volta Region.

Held on the theme, “Youth employment and unemployment, the case for teaching Entrepreneurial Development Skills as a core subject in secondary school,” the event highlighted the need to equip young people with practical and entrepreneurial skills to address unemployment challenges.

The event brought together government officials, traditional leaders, alumni, teachers, students and other stakeholders in education to celebrate the achievements of the school and reflect on its contributions to national development.

Commendation to alumni

Mr Debrah commended the 1963 Year Group of KETASCO for donating a newly constructed Visual Arts Department building to the school.

He said the facility would serve as an important resource to enhance teaching and learning, while preparing students with practical and creative skills for the future.

The chief of staff added that the government’s support for education in the Volta Region was evident through the implementation of several GET Fund infrastructure projects, including the one at KETASCO.

Commitment

For his part, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the region through infrastructure development in Senior High Schools.

He highlighted a number of GETFund projects currently ongoing in the region, adding that KETASCO was one of the beneficiary institutions.

“We also have the opportunity today to commission the newly constructed Visual Arts Department building, a legacy project generously donated by the 1963 Year Group,” he said.

Appreciation

The Headmaster of KETASCO, Innocent August, described the anniversary celebration as a moment of pride for the school community.

Mr August said the presence of notable dignitaries, including government officials, demonstrated the commitment to advancing education in the Volta Region.

He explained that the ongoing GETFund project and the Visual Arts Department building constructed by the 1963 Year Group were clear testimonies of the collective support for the development of the school.

Alumni contribution

A member of the 1963 Year Group, Fiagbe Bodza-Lumor, said the Visual Arts Department building initiated by the alumni was aimed at strengthening infrastructure development in the school.

He said the facility would provide a conducive environment for both students and teachers to explore creativity and practical learning.
