The Ministry of Education has moved to address concerns over its proposed collaboration with Google on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) education platform, emphasising that no Ghanaian language group will be excluded from the initiative.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, and signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry explained that the four languages selected by Minister Haruna Iddrisu are intended only for a pilot phase.
The trial is designed to test the tool’s effectiveness, adaptability, and overall educational impact before a nationwide rollout.
The clarification comes after members of the Ga and Adangbe communities raised concerns that their languages had been overlooked. The Ministry assured the public that the pilot does not constitute marginalisation or permanent exclusion.
“The pilot phase is strictly for testing purposes and will not determine the final scope of the programme,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, following a successful evaluation of the pilot, the AI tool will be expanded to incorporate all twelve officially approved Ghanaian languages, explicitly including Ga and Adangbe alongside other local languages.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to linguistic inclusivity and equitable access in education, highlighting its readiness to consult with stakeholders, traditional authorities, and communities nationwide.
It stressed that technology-driven learning will be deployed in a manner that respects Ghana’s rich linguistic diversity while improving learning outcomes for all students.
