The Ketu North District Police Command has opened a formal investigation into the death of an eight-year-old girl, believed to have resulted from an alleged assault by her father in Dzodze-Fiagbedu.

According to police reports, on September 28, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., authorities were alerted that Thomas Gbemu may have physically harmed his daughter, Ivy Gbemu, a Class Two student at Dzodze Demonstration School, on September 26. The young girl reportedly died the following day, September 27, around 3:00 p.m.

ASP Emmanuel Habada, the District Crime Officer, led a team to the suspect’s residence immediately after receiving the tip-off, but Thomas Gbemu could not be located. Police have indicated that efforts to track him down are ongoing.

Family sources disclosed that Ivy had returned from school on September 25 complaining of illness. Her father reportedly obtained some medication from a local chemical shop to manage her symptoms. During the investigation, police found several medical items in the child’s room, including Efpac Junior Oral Suspension Syrup, Antipa Ladique Tablets, and Wonderful No. 1 Ointment, which have been seized as evidence.

Authorities, accompanied by a family member, proceeded to St. Anthony’s Hospital morgue to identify the body. Examination by Dr. Samuel Owusu revealed visible marks of assault on both of Ivy’s arms. The body has been preserved at the hospital pending autopsy results.

ASP Habada confirmed that the case remains under active investigation and reiterated that police are working to apprehend the father, who is currently evading arrest.
