Reggae musician Blakk Rasta is calling out celebrities who support politicians for personal gain. In a recent interview, he criticized the practice, saying it’s driven by self-interest rather than a desire to serve the people.
Blakk Rasta’s comments come after Wayoosi, a Kumawood actor, switched his support from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing feeling unacknowledged by NAPO, the Minister of Energy.
But Blakk Rasta says this kind of political hopping is shameful and perpetuates corruption.
He’s urging celebrities to be more discreet in their political affiliations and focus on the greater good.
Meanwhile Wayoosi has composed a campaign song for the NDC in support of their flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama. Many believe it is as a result of the help he received from the former president when he suffered from a kidney issue.
But is it fair to expect celebrities to keep their political views private?
And do their endorsements really make a difference in the outcome of elections?
The debate is heating up, with some arguing that celebrities have the right to support whoever they choose, while others agree with Blakk Rasta that their motivations should be scrutinized.
As the 2024 elections approach, one thing is clear: celebrity endorsements will be under the microscope.
