Ex-Headmaster Lured with ‘Gold’ and Killed in Cold Blood—Police Arrest Two

Man Arrested After Fuel Station Robbery and Murder—Phone of Victim Found in His Possession

A shocking murder in the Ashanti Region has left residents horrified, as details emerge about a twisted scheme that ended in the death of a respected former school head. Mr. Eric Obeng Darko, once the headmaster of Dampong Senior High School, fell victim to a carefully orchestrated trap involving promises of buried treasure, a fake church ritual, and a fatal ambush.

Investigators say the whole plot began in 2024, when a woman named Elizabeth Darkwah convinced Mr. Darko she had knowledge of ancient family gold buried underground. All she needed, she said, was financial support to retrieve it. Eager to uncover the supposed treasure, Mr. Darko agreed.

Later, Elizabeth and her alleged accomplice, Mohammed Mubarak, reportedly showed up at his home and dug out 20 stone-like objects that looked like gold. They claimed the stones needed spiritual cleansing at a church before they could be used or sold. But when Mr. Darko pressed her to follow through with the church visit, Elizabeth began avoiding his calls and vanished from contact.

According to police, the so-called cleansing was never real. It was all part of a deadly plan. Elizabeth, Mubarak, and three other suspects—still on the run—decided to eliminate Mr. Darko permanently.

On the day of the murder, the group lured him to a remote location in Aboabugya. When he sensed danger and tried to flee, Mubarak allegedly mowed him down with a Honda Odyssey vehicle. The brutal hit-and-run instantly ended his life.

Mohammed Mubarak and Elizabeth Darkwah were arrested on June 9 and June 17 respectively. They’ve already made a court appearance and are being held in custody until their next hearing on July 4, 2025.
