Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, have confirmed that officers of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) searched his residence as part of ongoing investigations into allegations surrounding the sale of government-funded overseas scholarships.
According to his legal team, the search was prompted by comments Mr. Nkansah made during a radio discussion in which he claimed that some individuals were paying to secure state-sponsored scholarships to study abroad.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM, lead counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah stated that the officers who carried out the operation were unable to produce a search warrant when requested.
The lawyers further clarified that Mr Nkansah was not arrested, contrary to reports circulating on social media.
They explained that he voluntarily honoured an invitation from the NIB and cooperated fully with investigators by providing information relevant to the alleged activities at the Scholarship Secretariat.
Mr Nkansah’s engagement with the NIB followed a directive by President John Dramani Mahama, issued after the former NEIP CEO made the allegations on Sompa 106.5 FM.
In a statement dated February 3, 2026, the Office of the President described the claims as serious and of significant public interest, tasking the NIB to verify the allegations, identify any persons involved, and submit its findings directly to the President for further action.
