The legal representatives of former National Petroleum Authority CEO Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid have dismissed claims that assets worth over GH¢100 million linked to him have been seized. In a statement from Hay & Partners at Law, signed by Hanifa Yahaya Esq., the lawyers described the OSP’s assertions as misleading and damaging.
They clarified that no property, business, or asset connected to Dr. Abdul-Hamid has been traced, identified, or confiscated by the Special Prosecutor. According to the legal team, the amended charge sheet filed by the OSP on October 17, 2025, lists several counts of alleged offences but makes no mention of any seized assets.
The statement accused the OSP of engaging in public theatrics and distorting facts, warning that such behaviour undermines the office’s constitutional and ethical responsibilities. The lawyers emphasized that their client has consistently cooperated with the investigation, attending all court proceedings and complying with every request from the OSP.
They reiterated Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s right to be presumed innocent under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and expressed concern that sensational media commentary could prejudice public opinion and compromise the integrity of the judicial process.
The legal team stressed that focusing on proper legal procedures, rather than public statements, is crucial to upholding justice and maintaining trust in Ghana’s legal system.
