Luis Rubiales’ attempt to unveil his new memoir took a chaotic turn when an unexpected attack unfolded right in the middle of his presentation. The former president of the Spanish Football Federation, still widely known for the controversy surrounding his unsolicited kiss on Jenni Hermoso during the 2023 Women’s World Cup ceremony, was introducing his book when eggs suddenly came flying toward him.
Rubiales was seated and interacting with attendees when the eggs smashed into the screen behind him. He reacted quickly, twisting away to avoid being hit. The moment immediately disrupted the event and sent the room into confusion.
The memoir he was launching, titled Matar A Rubiales (Killing Rubiales), spans 500 pages and recounts his fall from grace after the World Cup incident. The book delves into his viewpoint on the backlash that followed, including what he portrays as coordinated opposition from influential groups and political forces in Spain.
After the commotion, Rubiales addressed the situation and revealed that the attacker was actually a member of his own family — his uncle. He said he had no prior warning about the man’s intentions and initially feared the intruder might be carrying something more dangerous before realizing the attack involved eggs.
Publishers of the memoir have highlighted Rubiales’ claims that he became the target of several powerful factions in public life, including governmental entities and groups tied to feminist advocacy.
Security officials have since taken charge of the matter and begun investigations into the disruption at the event.
