Fake soldier nabbed after hiring okada rider for rounds and refusing to pay

In the Nkwanta South municipality of the Oti Region, authorities have apprehended a 27-year-old man, Abdul Majeed, for impersonating a military officer.

Majeed’s charade was exposed when he hired an okada rider for town rounds but refused to pay for the service. Instead, he took the unsuspecting rider to local chop bars, where he spent hours without settling the bills.

When pressed for payment, Majeed directed the rider to accompany him to the military barracks.

Officials from the military intervened after the irate motorcyclist confronted Majeed, who was clad in military uniform. To the surprise of all, Majeed turned out to be a fake rather than a soldier.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that Majeed had been assuming the role of a military officer and parading throughout the town in an attempt to acquire authority and respect.

Majeed was put through drills by the military for misleading the public and damaging the Ghana Armed Forces’ reputation in retaliation.

Majeed has been turned over to the police to assist with the ongoing investigation and is currently being charged with fraud and impersonation.
