A 36-year-old farmer is reported to have murdered an octogenarian at Mangoase near Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
Identified as Chalim Madzaton, he is reported to have attacked his girlfriend, one Yaa Tugbenyo, 55, and her 80-year-old mother, Dakolor Semaka, at their residence on March 24, 2026.
A police statement said his girlfriend managed to escape but later returned to find her mother lying motionless on the floor.
Police Officers from Kadjebi District Police Command visited the scene and found the body of the deceased lying in a supine position with visible signs of violence, the statement noted.
“The scene was processed, and photographs were taken for evidential purposes. The deceased was pronounced dead by a medical officer at St. Mary Theresa Hospital, and the body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the statement further reported.
The suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before the court in due course.”
