A tragic incident has rocked Igueze village in Edo State, where a 56-year-old farmer, Henry Oyagbomwan, was found dead after reportedly being murdered by five of his own farm workers. The incident occurred shortly after the farmer completed a major sale of pineapples, earning approximately ₦900,000, the equivalent of GHS6,000.
Police investigations reveal that the assailants, believed to have been driven by greed, plotted to take the farmer’s life in order to steal the proceeds of the sale. After allegedly killing him, they buried his body in a shallow grave within the same farmland where he toiled.
Among the five suspects, two are reported to be from Akwa Ibom State, while the remaining three hail from northern Nigeria. All are currently at large, prompting the Edo State Police Command to launch a widespread manhunt.
Authorities say they are collaborating with security agencies across state lines to ensure the swift capture and prosecution of the suspects. The incident has left the local community in shock, with many demanding justice for the slain farmer.
