Farouk Aliu Mahama, former Member of Parliament for Yendi, has paid tribute to his late father, former Vice-President Aliu Mahama, on what would have been his 80th birthday.
Marking the milestone on March 3, 2026, Mr Mahama took to social media to celebrate his father’s life and legacy, describing him as a man of deep compassion and integrity.
“Daddy, today, 3rd March 2026, would have marked your 80th birthday. You were an embodiment of human value,” he wrote.
Reflecting on his father’s character and faith, he added: “You loved, cared, kind clean heart and were Allah-fearing. May you continue to rest in the hand of your creator. We love and miss you to the end of time. You showed us the way and your legacy lives.”
Aliu Mahama, who served as Vice-President from 2001 to 2009, was the first person from Dagbon to rise to the high office of Vice-President, a milestone his son highlighted as a source of pride for the people of the area.
Farouk Aliu Mahama has since followed in his father’s political footsteps. He served two terms as Member of Parliament for Yendi, continuing the family’s presence in national politics.
Although he is no longer the constituency’s representative in Parliament, Mr Mahama remains active in public life and is widely regarded as an influential figure in Yendi and beyond. His regular philanthropic support for individuals and communities has sustained his visibility and appeal within the constituency.
The tribute has drawn attention to the enduring legacy of Aliu Mahama, whose political journey continues to resonate, particularly in the Northern Region where he remains a significant historical figure.
