Ghanaian boxer Bukom Banku has revealed that he did not observe the Ramadan fast this year, not due to health reasons but simply because he could not go without food.
Speaking in an interview on Max TV, the outspoken boxer admitted that fasting was too difficult for him, making it impossible to participate in the sacred Islamic practice.
“I just can’t stay hungry,” he said, emphasizing that his decision was personal and not based on any medical exemption.
Ramadan, an important month in the Islamic faith, involves fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
While fasting is obligatory for Muslims, certain exemptions exist for those with valid reasons, such as illness or extreme hardship.
Despite skipping the fast, Bukom Banku explained that he still observed the essence of Ramadan by supporting others.
He stated that he regularly gives money to those who fast and asks them to pray on his behalf. He believes that this act aligns with Islamic teachings and allows him to participate in his own way.
The former boxer further noted that his community members are aware of his stance on fasting and have grown to accept it over the years.
His revelation has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his honesty while others argue that fasting remains a core religious obligation.
