The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Anloga Market (Anwonadwom) in Afful Nkwanta, Kumasi.

The blaze, which broke out on Monday, January 25, destroyed over 100 wooden and metal commercial structures along with their contents.

According to the GNFS, the fire was reported at 10:41 pm, and the first fire appliance from the Regional Headquarters Substation arrived nine minutes later to find the fire at an advanced stage.

The fire was brought under control by 2:30 am and fully extinguished by 4:08 am on Tuesday (January 27, 2026), with no casualties reported.

The operation faced challenges due to market congestion and a lack of segregation between wares, which contributed to the rapid spread.

Reinforcement from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations, supported by a water tanker and a functional hydrant within the market, helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
