Fire destroys peoperty at Kasoa new market

A major fire outbreak has occurred at the Kasoa New Market this evening, January 4, 2026 destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.  

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze has swept through significant portions of the market.

Personnel from the Kasoa and Weija Fire Stations were the first to arrive at the scene but due to the intensity of the inferno, all available fire tenders and water pumps from Accra have been dispatched to support the operation.  

Firefighters are currently battling the flames to prevent them from spreading to neighboring shops and residential structures.

The full extent of the property damage is not yet known, and there have been no official reports of casualties as of now.  

The authorities have urged traders and residents to stay clear of the area to allow emergency teams unfettered access to the site.  

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
