A major fire in Mpatasie, a suburb of Berekum East in the Bono Region, has left more than twenty people homeless after a seven-bedroom house owned by a visually impaired man was completely destroyed.

Eyewitnesses reported that smoke was first noticed coming from one of the rooms before the flames quickly engulfed the entire building. Despite multiple distress calls to the Ghana National Fire Service, officers arrived without a fire tender, forcing residents to attempt to control the blaze themselves using buckets of water.

Fire personnel later arrived from Nsuatre, but by then the house had already been reduced to ashes. One tenant reportedly collapsed during the ordeal, and several household properties were lost.

The incident has prompted appeals from residents to the government and their local Member of Parliament, urging the replacement of the broken-down fire tender to ensure more effective responses to frequent fire emergencies in the Berekum area.
