A devastating fire has gutted several market stalls and residential houses at Atonsu Bokro in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region, leaving hundreds of residents homeless.

The fire broke out around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and razed multiple stalls and rooms before the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The cause of the fire is yet to be identified, but no casualty was recorded.

One of the victims, identified as Auntie Ama, whose room and container shop were completely destroyed, said she was unable to salvage a single item from her property.

“I was not around when the fire started. I only received a call from my neighbours about the outbreak. When I arrived, everything I owned had been burnt. I am left with nothing,” she said amid tears.

The regional fire command deployed three fire tenders to combat the blaze, while residents of the community assisted by fetching water from their homes to help bring the fire under control.

This incident marks the third major fire outbreak in the Ashanti Region within the past 72 hours, resulting in the destruction of properties worth millions of cedis.
