Fire outbreak destroys School Feeding facilities at Ninting

The Pre-school department of the Ninting R/C Primary School in the Mampong Municipality of Ashanti has been closed down temporarily following a fire outbreak that has completely destroyed the School Feeding structure.

The decision to close down the Pre-school department is part of precautionary measures taken by the authorities of the school to protect the children against accidents at the scene.

The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown and giving the people a cause to be concerned especially as the affected building had no electricity supply.

According to a Member of the Unit Committee of the Ninting Electoral Area, Johnson Nyamekye, the fire started around 1 am today, Tuesday February 3, 2026, but they could not reach the Mampong Municipal Station of the Ghana National Fire Service after many distress phone calls.

At about 8 am, when our Correspondent got there, though the fire had been brought under control through the efforts of some youth of the town, the fire was still active as some flames were seen inside the building.

Officials from the Mampong Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, also arrived at the scene later upon a formal report by the Assembly Member.

The Municipal Director of the Organization, Mark Hammer Yeboah, spoke about the seriousness of the disaster particularly the building, which he noted had lost structural integrity and therefore had to be demolished.

The affected building is the Canteen and store for the preparation of meals to feed pupils of the Ninting R/C Primary under the School Feeding Programme. The store had been re-stocked with food items worth about GHC10,000 about two days before the fire incident.

The Caterer, Madam Yaa Adisa Pokuaa, spoke about her loss.

The Schools Improvement and Support Officer of the Mampong Municipal Education Directorate, Nicholas Osei Taylor, justified the temporary close down of the Pre School Department of the Ninting R/C Primary School and how long the children would have to stay at home.

Meanwhile, as interim support to getting the school feeding to feed the pupils, the Municipal NADMO pledged to provide a quantity of maize and rice, while they make formal report to the Municipal Assembly for extensive support.
