The Founder and Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group of Companies, Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse, has announced that one of his companies, First Sky Energies, will, in March 2026, launch a 50-megawatt renewable energy power plant to contribute to Ghana’s national grid.
Currently under construction in Yendi, the plant is expected to help alleviate unforeseen power shortages across the country once completed.
Mr Kutortse described the project as part of the Group’s commitment to supporting national development through sustainable energy solutions, noting that it aligns with efforts to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity supply for households and businesses.
“As a company, our focus is to build a future that is not only prosperous but sustainable, and that is why the First Sky Energy, by the end of March this year, will complete a 50 megawatts PV power station to generate and supply power to the national grid,” he said during the companies’ 23rd anniversary and thanksgiving service in Accra.
The 50MW Solar PV generating power station is located in the Yendi District of the Northern Region on 140 acres of land.
“This project represent confident in the Ghanaian entrepreneurship and ownership. It is a fully Ghanaian-owned utility solar project of its kind and the second largest solar installation in this country,” he added.
He also said the projects underlines with “United Nations development goals, particularly the commitment to affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth and climate action.”
Mr Kutortse added that the development is also aligned with Ghana’s green energy transition to “position our country as a regional leader in renewable energy and sustainable development.”
He said that when fully operational, it will help create more jobs, “it is expected to create 300 additional jobs, providing opportunities particularly in the communities in the northern region.”
