Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has named a 26-man squad for the upcoming international break where Ghana will face Austria and Germany.
The two games form part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup to be staged in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
Marvin Senaya is one of four players called up for the upcoming assignments as the head coach continues to weigh his options.
Here are five things to know about the new boy Senaya:
Son of former Togo international Yao Mawuko Sènaya
Marvin is the son of former Togolese player Yao Mawuko Senaya. Yao played as a midfielder for the Togo national team, making 20 appearances between 1998 and 2008. He played with Togo at the 1998 and 2000 Africa Cup of Nation tournaments.
Eligible to play for Togo
Born to a Togolese, Marvin was also eligible to feature for the Togo national team. The defender was included in Togo’s squad list for the March international break prior to being named in Otto Addo’s squad.
Began senior career at Strasbourg
Marvin started his professional career at Strasbourg, playing for the club’s reserve team. He later went on to sign his professional contract with the senior team on 7 May 2021. Later that year, the defender signed on loan with Sochaux before going on to make his professional debut in September. He also played on loan at Rodez and Laussane-Sport before being signed by Auxerre.
Plays as a right-back
Senaya plays as a right-back but can also operate as a wing-back or even in midfield roles. That versatility is gold in modern football systems. The majority of his appearances for the Ligue 1 side Auxerre have been at the right-back position, but the defender can also slot in at other roles.
Built through the French system
Coming through Strasbourg and featuring in Ligue 1 before moving to Auxerre, he’s been shaped in one of Europe’s most disciplined development pipelines. That usually means strong tactical awareness and a good foundation to build on for the defender.
