Former Ghanaian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Tony Aidoo, has criticised the communication strategy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging the party to prioritise policy messaging over personal praise for leaders.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, February 16, 2026, Dr Aidoo said NDC communicators should focus on explaining the party’s policies rather than extolling the virtues of President John Mahama.

“I am not satisfied with the way our communicators are doing. They go there praising John Mahama — John Mahama doesn’t need your praise singing. Go and explain the party’s policies. If you can’t do that, then don’t go to the studio,” he said.

Dr Aidoo also highlighted the need for the party to cultivate a new generation of communicators.

While he expressed support for Sammy Gyamfi remaining as NDC’s Director of Communications, he emphasised that others should be groomed to take on greater responsibilities.

“So, hindsight cannot be foresight. Now the party has come out with a policy. But there are so many mouths to feed, and so many hands to work. Let us grow by the division of labour,” he stated.

He urged NDC’s communicators to shift their focus from personal accolades to the substance of party policies, which he said is key to effective public engagement.
