Seven Ghanaian tomato traders are being buried in Burkina Faso today, casting a pall over the country. Last Saturday’s horrific terrorist attack in Titao claimed the lives of the victims, causing anger and sadness throughout Ghana. The attackers reportedly attacked the traders viciously, shooting them dead and then completely destroying their bodies with fire.Families are saddened as a result of the attack’s ferocity, which has made identification challenging. Today’s funeral in the adjacent country brings the tragic hunt for the victims—who had come to the area in order to make a living—to a close. This sad event brings to light the increasing Sahelian insecurity that still poses a serious risk to Ghanaians involved in cross-border trading.
