A man working as a forest guard has found himself in legal trouble after allegedly attempting to smuggle unapproved drugs camouflaged as clothing through the VIP bus terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The suspect, George Nii Quaye, reportedly came under scrutiny on July 26, 2025, when a driver’s mate at the terminal became suspicious of a package Quaye was preparing to send to Dormaa Ahenkro. The guard reportedly claimed it contained only clothes, but further checks uncovered a stash of dried leaves and banned pharmaceuticals.
Authorities later identified the substances as 20 sachets of Amnezia, four sachets of Tapentadol 250mg (red-labeled), and 16 sachets of Timaking 120mg — all of which are unauthorized for sale under Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority regulations.
Quaye was immediately arrested and handed over to the police. Following his arrest, officers obtained a caution statement from him, and all the confiscated substances were sealed in his presence and sent for forensic analysis at the crime lab.
He was arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court and charged with possessing dangerous prohibited drugs, a charge to which he pleaded not guilty. The presiding judge, Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, granted him bail set at GH¢10,000, requiring two sureties with proof of justification. As part of his bail conditions, he must surrender his Ghana Card and report biweekly to the police.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 1, 2025, and has directed the prosecution to submit disclosures and witness statements in preparation for a Case Management Conference.
